풍공생: 바람을 나누며 사는 생명체들

디 언타이틀드 보이드에서는 런던 Wimbledon Common의 자연 속에서 시작된 작은 이야기를 시리즈별로 엮어낸 동화 WCCritters(Windmill Common Critters)를 소개하고자 한다. 작가 KWAKS는 주말에 가족들과 숲을 걷고, 흙투성이가 되어 놀던 시간들 속에서, 기억과 상상, 놀이가 공존하는 세계를 만들어 낸다.
 
이번 전시는 동화, 빚 바랜 사진 위에 그린 드로잉, 그리고 회화 작업을 통해 어린 시절 우리가 자연 속에서 느꼈던 자유와 상상, 그리고 설명할 수 없지만 분명 존재했던 행복의 감각을 담아낸다. 작가는 실제의 기억과 상상의 존재들을 한 화면 안에 함께 놓으며, 과거가 단순히 지나간 시간이 아니라 지금 이 순간에도 우리 안에 살아 있음을 이야기한다.

WCCritters는 단순한 캐릭터를 넘어, Wimbledon Common의 숲과 물가, 오래된 기억의 틈 사이 어딘가에서 우리를 기다리는 작은 존재들이다. 잠시 잊고 있었던 감각들, 자연 속에서 마음이 편안해지던 순간과 감정, 행복의 조각들을 다시 꺼내어 보여준다. 

본 전시에서는 신비로운 숲속 공간 Windmill Common을 배경으로, 여섯개의 시리즈 속 호기심 많고 불완전하지만 사랑스러운 캐릭터들의 우정과 모험을 담고 있다. 서로 다른 존재들은 이야기 속을 자유롭게 오가며 다시 등장하고 성장해 하나의 공동 서사를 만들어간다. 자연·조화·다양성이라는 주제를 통해 공감과 협력, 희망이 담긴 “Happy Days”의 세계를 그려간다.

우리가 잊고 지냈던 작은 상상과 다정함은, 어쩌면 아직도 우리 마음 어딘가에 조용히 살아있을지 모른다. WCCritters와 함께 잠시 어린 시절의 감각과 행복을 다시 만나보길 바란다.

WCCritters: The Creatures Who Share the Wind

The Untitled Void presents WCCritters (Windmill Common Critters), a series of illustrated stories inspired by small moments that began in the natural landscapes of Wimbledon Common in London. Artist KWAKS creates a world where memory, imagination, and play coexist, drawing from weekends spent walking through the woods with family and carefree hours of becoming delightfully covered in mud while exploring nature.

Through storybooks, drawings layered onto faded photographs, and paintings, this exhibition captures the sense of freedom, wonder, and unexplainable happiness that many of us experienced in nature during childhood. By placing real memories alongside imagined beings within the same visual space, the artist suggests that the past is not simply a distant time but something that continues to live within us in the present.

More than simple characters, the WCCritters are small companions waiting somewhere between the forests, streams, and forgotten memories of Wimbledon Common. They invite us to rediscover sensations we may have overlooked: the calm of being surrounded by nature, moments of quiet joy, and fragments of happiness preserved within memory.

Set within the mysterious woodland world of Windmill Common, the exhibition follows the friendships and adventures of curious, imperfect, yet lovable characters across six interconnected story series. These diverse beings move freely between stories, reappearing, growing, and weaving together a shared narrative. Through themes of nature, harmony, and diversity, the exhibition portrays a world of “Happy Days” filled with empathy, cooperation, and hope.

The small acts of imagination and kindness we may have forgotten are perhaps still quietly alive somewhere within us. Through WCCritters, we invite you to reconnect, if only for a moment, with the feelings of childhood and the simple happiness they once brought.
